Woman
When I was in school, there was this poem about, well I don't remember. I don't even recall whether it was a poem or prose. All I remember was how my patience was tested. The lesson led the teacher somehow to speak about Adam, Eve and Eden. The teacher, who I swear do not know which faith she follows, started explaining why did the serpent chose the lady for apple-tasting. She said women were full of guile, wavering head and impure(???). With every word she spoke, I was clenching my fists tighter. How can she say such mean things about women?
Its not about what is taught in specific religion. I am pretty sure the scripts of Manu directly or indirectly implied this stuff. All I am looking at is years and years of history leaving out the part played by women. I am saying its left out but how can there never be part for them? Being equal in population.
I can see why their portrayal got lost. Women were the ground on which men built their kingdoms, waged wars, found new territories and questioned their way into modern science and technology. I am not speaking for the few who cried out loud for their space in "men's" world by acting like men or acting through men. But for the vast majority who were daughters being part of the territory bargain or wives who bore children as a life-purpose, mothers who tended to household in sickness and in health. Actually its also about women who did not raise their voice for equal rights but were content with the care and protection they received.
I think they just did fine. They knew what they signed up for being born as a girl in those times. What about now? Women, trying to find their way into freedom. The blocks to their appeal to fairness has been the people, men and women, who do not see the need. The quality lacking here is inquisitive nature, otherwise very core to human mind. An enquiry of why do we have to do what we are doing.
However, I am completely against Feminism. The idea that we need an ideology for supporting women, who are one of the two genders possible in mankind, that enrages me and to think that we have come this far because of that, disappoints me. Why do we have to say, respect women, give them equal rights, do not harass them, do not rape them, do not consider her below you? Didn't people understand it from the same old scriptures propagating rightful behavior? Be kind, be humble, be generous. How did we end up reading it to be relevant to only men? Just because, there are separate clauses for managing women? I guess not. Its because women are the biggest stereotype and myth. A person who is same but different and men must have tried to interpret but have lost their way even before starting. Women must have agreed to find solace in getting along in dangerous habitats. Refinement of social relationships might have introduced structure that is comprehensible only to the time they were jotted down.

Women are complex. The things they carry on their minds, your hard drive can't accommodate. Her wired logic might be impossible to decode but it has long term repercussions more often than not. She does dream about Prince Charming rescuing her, constantly worries about her looks, envies other women for trivial things and argue emotionally. But she also knows her way out of crises in a day-to-day life, she admires a person who can look beyond her appearance, she can empathize easily and surprise with her natural instincts.
My point is we are different but same. So, may be there can be less humor directed at their nagging, reasoning or driving. Wouldn't it be great if we constantly remind ourselves and others to be a human before being a man or woman? Also, best if men could really know its not easy being a woman in any culture, in any faith. I just wish that any human on this earth do not suffer because of the basic element of their birth, the gender.
